The family is the basic unit of society – it is not an empty slogan, but the truth! Its members have very close ties, resulting from kinship and everyday closeness. Family relationships are very important – they affect the daily well-being and comfort of its members, as well as the proper development of children.
Appropriate family relationships play an important role for society – they teach children how the internal life of the family and contacts between loved ones should look like. Thanks to this, the functioning of future families will be efficient and satisfying for its members.
General family relations in the scientific approach do not describe how they are supposed to translate into bonding feelings and everyday contacts. This is a matter of individual and family environment. It is communication and feelings that are crucial for its proper functioning. Awareness of a closer or more distant kinship with a given person gives a person a certain sense of identity. However, it is not enough to lead a successful family life. Let’s look at the closest group of mother, father and children. The foundation of the functioning of the family is the emotional relationship of the parents, most often sealed by marriage.
After all, thanks to the love of a man and a woman, their children were conceived. It is the responsibility of mothers and fathers to raise their children. Raising children is not easy – it is a long-term, difficult process that requires not only large financial outlays, but also commitment, patience, consistency and, of course, tenderness. The most efficient and successful upbringing of children is when both parents consistently achieve the goals set together.
The upbringing process is facilitated by a number of factors present in the family environment. An important function is played by love and a sense of community between the parents themselves, because children observe their daily relationships. It is also important to properly divide the duties – the days when the mother took care of the children and the father stood on the sidelines are gone. The involvement of the father is just as important as that of the mother.
Family relationships – what should they be like?
What should be the relationship between the closest family members? First of all, based on love, mutual respect and trust. Some parents treat their children as their property, with which they can do what they want. This is a big mistake that has serious consequences in the adult life of the child.
It should be remembered that a small person is a separate being who has dignity and the right to experience emotions and problems at an appropriate level. Similarly, children are required to respect their parents’ problems and feelings, which adults should clearly communicate (saying, for example, “I’m very tired, we’ll play in an hour when I have more strength”).
Nurturing family relationships requires allocating adequate time for both children and spouse. It is not only doing household chores or learning together, but also e.g. bicycle trips, playing board games. Of course, parents must also have some time for each other – a date once a week or even a walk together is recommended. These activities will help you get away from everyday problems and take care of this most important relationship, which became the beginning of the family and binds it together.
Taking care of family relationships is also time for the elderly – we must not forget about grandparents and grandmothers, who often suffer severely from loneliness. Regular visits, telephone calls and care will prevent this. In this way, at the same time, we teach children respect and love for the elderly.
