Did you know that in the United States alone there are approximately 50 billion water bottles consumed every year? That’s a whole lot of wasted plastic! And although some of them do get recycled, others end up in landfills or as litter in our oceans and waterways, polluting our natural environment and harming wildlife. So how many water bottles in a gallon are in a gallon? The short answer is 16 . . . you just might be surprised at how much you can save by carrying your own reusable water bottle around with you instead of buying bottled water all the time!
Counting 1-Liter Bottles
A gallon of water is 128 fluid ounces, or 2.4 liters. To count how many 1-liter bottles are in a gallon, take the number of liters and divide it by 4 to get the number of 1-liter bottles. If you want to know how many gallons of water there are, multiply the amount of 1-liter bottles by 4. If you want to know how many liters are in a gallon, use this formula: Number of Liters ÷ Number of Liters = Number of Gallons
Counting 2.5 Liter Bottles
A gallon of water weighs 8.3 pounds and is 128 fluid ounces. If you were to pour 12, two-liter bottles of water into a gallon container, there would be 16 gallons of water. That is the same as 192 water bottles! If you only had 2.5 liter bottles, it would take 16 of them to fill up a gallon container.
In that case, 40 water bottles make up one gallon. What if you wanted to know how many smaller containers made up a gallon? For example, how many 20 ounce cups are in a gallon? One gallon equals 10 cups.
There are 4 liters in each cup so 10 cups = 400 milliliters. To convert this to ounces we divide by 1000 so 400 milliliters equals 0.4 liters which converts to 80 ounces or 1.2 gallons. Do you have your own estimation of how many cups are in a gallon? Let us know! Sometimes when I’m drinking from a bottle I want to know what my number is equivalent too.
Say for instance I’m drinking 16 ounces and then stop at some point because I don’t want any more but my bottle says 24 on the label. Just do the following math: 16 ÷ 2=8; 24 – 8=16. Thus, my current consumption would equal 32 ounces or 2 quarts or 768 milliliters (a quart equals 236 ml).
Counting 5-Liter (1/2 Gallon) Jugs
- One gallon is equal to 128 fluid ounces. 2. There are 128 fluid ounces per gallon. 3. One gallon equals 16 cups of water. 4. In other words, one gallon equals eight pints, four quarts or sixteen cups of water depending on how you measure it. 5. There are eight pints, four quarts or sixteen cups of water per gallon.
- So, if you have 16 cups of water and multiply that by the number of gallons in a gallon (8) you will find out there are 128 ounces per gallon! 7. If you have 4 quarts and multiply that by the number of gallons in a gallon (8), there will be 64 ounces per gallon. 8. If you have 2 pints and multiply that by the number of gallons in a gallon (16), there will be 32 ounces per gallon. 9.
Fluid Ounces vs. Liquid Cups
The conversion between fluid ounces and cups is an easy one, but it can be confusing when you’re trying to convert gallons to cups. The conversion between fluid ounces and cups of water is: 1 cup = 8 fluid ounces. To convert gallons to cups, you simply divide the number of gallons by 8. For example, 10 gallons would be equal to 100 cups.
